PAWTUCKET --- James J. Babota, 70, of 126 Clews St., a machinist for ITT for 40 years before retiring in 1984, died Sunday at Memorial Hospital. He was the husband of Josephine M. (Shaheen) Babota.
Born in Pawtucket, he was a son of the last Assad and Bahija (Salome) Babota.
Mr. Babota was a school bus monitor for the past 18 months. He was a World War II Army Air Forces veteran. He was a member of the St. Vincent de Paul Society. He was a member of the Baseball Umpires Association of Rhode Island for more than 25 years.
Besides his wife he leaves a daughter, Joann Ondrasek of Sacramento, Calif.; a son, James M. Babota of Pawtucket; three sisters, Jennie Babota, Olga McGill, both of Pawtucket, and Mary Jamison of Central Falls; two grandchildren and a great-grandson.
A military funeral will be held Thursday at 8 a.m. from the Cheetham Mortuary, 1012 Newport Ave., with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9 at St. Leo the Great Church, Central Avenue. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery.
