CATEGORY: Event TYPE: Obituary DATE: 2001 NOTE: THOMPSON -- Gretchen M. (Redlitz) Hoenig, 71, of 1291 Thompson Road, a retired nurse anesthesiologist died Saturday, Jan. 20, in Hubbard Regional Hospital, Webster.
She leaves her husband of 45 years, Andrew F. Hoenig; two sons, Paul A. Hoenig of Thompson and Thomas R. Hoenig of Webster; a brother, Conrad H. Redlitz of Webster; a sister, Elmira J. Surzenski of Webster; two grandsons. She was born in Webster, daughter of Hugo and Minnie (Schur) Redlitz, and graduated from Bartlett High School in Webster in 1946, where she was a standout cheerleader. She graduated from the Hahnemann Hospital School of Nursing in Worcester, and the St. Francis School of Anesthesia in Hartford.
Mrs. Hoenig was a nurse anesthesiologist at Hubbard Regional Hospital in Webster for 10 years, retiring in 1993. She previously worked at Memorial Hospital in Worcester for 20 years, and Harrington Memorial Hospital in Southbridge for seven years.
She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Oxford, and was active in church affairs. She was a member of the Hubbard Regional Hospital Guild in Webster. She was a charter member of the Nipmuc Webster Ski Club, and started the Lassie League in Thompson. She played several sports, including softball, basketball, water skiing, and field hockey.
Along with her husband, she traveled extensively in Europe and America.
The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 24, in Zion Lutheran Church, 70 South Main St., Oxford. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Dudley. Calling hours are from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 23, in Scanlon Funeral Home, East Main Street, Webster. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Zion Lutheran Church Organ Fund, 70 South Main St., Oxford, MA 01540.
