CATEGORY: Event TYPE: Obituary DATE: 8 Nov 2021 NOTE: Milton R. Redlitz, D.O. of Frederick, Maryland passed away peacefully on November 8, 2021 at the age of 96. Born on November 3, 1925 in Webster, Massachusetts, he was the second child of Bruno and Martha Redlitz.
After graduating from Bartlett High School in 1943, he enlisted in the US Navy to serve his country during World War II. Milton entered the medical corps, served on a transport boat, the USS Merak, and rose to the rank of Pharmacist Mate Second Class before the end of the war. His time in the US Navy was an interesting and exciting adventure that he never forgot; it also underpinned an interest in and dedication to the medical profession.
After WWII, Milton studied chemistry at Upsala College in New Jersey, and, after graduating, worked at Sylvania in Salem, Mass. as a chemist developing new coatings for light bulbs. Here he met his future wife, Elaine Ober of Peabody, Mass. Milton soon left Sylvania to attend the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine; he and Elaine were married two years later. After graduation, they moved back to New England for his internship and surgical residency at the Osteopathic Hospital of Maine in Portland. They settled in Maine where Milton established his career as a surgeon and they raised their family. Milton was elected as a Fellow to the American College of Osteopathic Surgeons in 1975, and, in addition to having an active surgical practice, held an appointment as Clinical Assistant Professor of Surgery at the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine. While living in Maine, Milton had been involved in the Masonic Lodge, enjoyed outdoor activities no matter what the season, and explored many creative pursuits such as woodworking and painting.
After retiring, Milton and Elaine enjoyed traveling, outdoors activities, reading, and their various hobbies; however, no matter where they were their hearts always belonged to Maine.
Milton was preceded in death by his wife of nearly 57 years; he is survived by their children, Karen (Nikolaos) and Kurt (Caroline), and grandchildren, Kendall and Tyler.
Milton will be interred at the Florida National Cemetery at Elaine’s side.
