NOTE: OXFORD- Delta Jean (Newman) Schur, 81, of Charlton St., died Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2004, in her home after a long illness with pancreatic cancer. She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Dr. Walter R. Schur of Oxford; eleven children, Paul R. Schur and his wife Marilyn of New Braintree, David C. Schur and his wife Lynn of Hollis, NH, Jonathan W. Schur and his wife Susann of Fitchburg, Ruth N. Peterson and her husband Marc of Oxford; Timothy M. Schur and his wife Deborah of Dudley, Peter M. Schur and his wife Paula of Paxton; Stephen A. Schur and his wife Allison of Oxford, Mary E. Giguere of Pepperell, Joel T. Schur and his wife Loret of Sterling, Daniel J. Schur and his wife Amy of Westborough, and Rhoda A. Decatur and her husband Thomas of Shrewsbury; a sister Dorothy Ann Krueger of Davie, FL, eighteen grandchildren, two great grandchildren, and many nephews and nieces. She was born in Akron, OH, the daughter of the late Carl and Alberta (Schoenleber) Newman.

Mrs. Schur graduated from Zion Lutheran School and Garfield High School, both in Akron, OH. She attended Valparaiso University in Valparaiso, IN, where she was a member of the Alpha Phi Delta Sorority. She graduated from Lutheran Hospital Medical Center School of Nursing in Cleveland, OH, where she was vice president of her class. Mrs. Schur served 1 year with Goodyear Aircraft in Akron, OH, as a registered nurse during World War II. In 1944 she married Dr. Schur and moved to Oxford.

Mrs. Schur was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Oxford and was very active in Lutheran church circles, locally, regionally, and nationally; treasurer of the Association of Evangelical Lutheran Churches

New England Synod; past president of the Lutheran Women's Missionary Society locally and regionally. She was a member and past president of the Doctor's Hospital Women's Auxiliary and was a member and past president of the Worcester District Medical Society Alliance. Mrs. Schur was a member and past president of the Tuesday Club and a charter member and past president of the Oxford Womans Club; she was a member and past president of the Valparaiso University Guild

Bay State Chapter; a member of the Friends of the Oxford Library; a member of the Oxford Huguenot Memorial Society and a member of the Sacarrappa Tennis Club in Oxford.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 7, 2004, at Zion Lutheran Church, 70 Main St., Oxford, with Pastor Andrew Simon officiating. Burial will be private. Calling hours will be Friday, Feb. 6, 2004, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in Paradis Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oxford. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Valparaiso University, Valparaiso, IN 46383-6493, or to Zion Lutheran Church, 70 Main St., Oxford, MA 01540.
