A son of the late Louis and Sophie (Shabo) Gamel, he was a graduate of Boston English and Boston College. An avid sports fan, he enjoyed playing softball and basketball in his earlier years. A retired salesman, he enjoyed volunteer work at homeless shelters serving holiday meals. Russell was the husband of Irene M. (OHara) Gamel; beloved father of Lorrie Gamel of Brockton, CWO4 Russell J. Gamel Jr., U.S.M.C., of California and his wife Michelle, David Gamel of Lakeville, Terry Gamel of Brockton and the late Gary Gamel; devoted Papa of Matthew and Megan Gamel, Brittany and Brandon Wright, Kristina McAvoy, Kayla Gamel-Emerald, Jordan and Haley Gamel; brother of Roy Gamel of Taunton and his wife Renee and the late Louis, Richard, Larry and Steve Gamel.
