NOTE: Gloria Ann Sexton (née Gamel) of Needham, MM, passed away on August 6, 2022.

The oldest of 8 children, she was born in 1941 to the late George and Freda Gamel. She resided in Roslindale, MA and attended public schools.

While still in her teens, she became a nursing assistant, and after completing her Bachelor of Arts at Boston College, fulfilled her dream of becoming a registered nurse. She later completed a Masters of Science in counseling psychology from Boston College.

Gloria honorably served as a Lieutenant in the Navy, stationed at the Naval base in Newport Rhode Island following college.

She married David Sexton of Mattapan, MA, in 1966, and settled in Needham, MA. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 2016 shortly before David's passing in 2017.

Gloria worked at numerous hospitals, most notably Leonard Morse Hospital - Metro West in Natick, MA, where she worked for nearly 20 years. She retired from nursing in 2003.

Also widely known for her work as an Avon sales representative, Gloria earned numerous sales awards during her more than 50-year tenure with the company.

She was also active in the Needham public schools, where she worked as both a crossing guard and as a lunch assistant.

Gloria was passionate about her family, her dogs, her gardens, a good book, and her faith. She loved and took an interest in everyone she met, spreading joy around her.

Gloria is survived by her five children, David Sexton Jr. and his wife Julie Steinberg of Westfield, NJ, Julie Redlitz and her husband Kurt of Norfolk, MA, Donna Gaulin of Randolph, VT, Matthew Sexton and his wife Dohi of Peachtree City, GA and Michael Sexton and his wife Elizma of Wellesley, MA.

Gloria is also survived by her seven siblings: Mary Scanga of Roslindale, MA,, Edward Gamel of Houston, TX, John Gamel of Bridgewater, MA, Linda Hurst of Dedham, MA, Barbara Durham of Houston, TX, and twin brothers George Gamel of Richmond, TX and William Gamel of Sugarland, TX.

She will also be missed by her eleven grandchildren, numerous cousins, nieces and nephews, and her two dogs Rosie and Riley.

She will forever be lovingly remembered by her family and those whose lives she touched.

Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, August 17th from 4 to 7pm at Eaton Funeral Home, 1351 Highland Ave, Needham, MA. Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, August 18th at 10am at Saint Joseph's Church, 1382 Highland Ave, Needham. Reception to follow. There will be a private burial.
